The 3P (production preparation) process engages the hearts and minds of the people who do the work.
Since 2002, JBA has conducted more than 50 3P Lean Facility Design events. 3P is a week-long process that brings together key stakeholders — patients, families, hospital administrators, doctors, nurses, staff, architects, and Lean experts — who jointly design a new facility or a new process based on Lean principles. The goal is to produce a high quality product or process that meets customer needs at a targeted cost.
In addition to enabling a comprehensive design of entire facilities, 3P events also can be beneficial for projects of smaller scope, such as design or redesign of a single process or physician’s practice, renovations of areas within facilities, or complete redesign of simple processes. For example, JBA conducted a 3P that designed and implemented a new patient safety alert process that will be replicated throughout the entire Saskatchewan healthcare system. In another example, JBA consulted on a redesign of current patient care models to put in place best practice standards and guidelines all focused on improving patient care. The bottom line for 3P events is that in most cases, the results are dramatic, improving quality of care, vastly improving staff and patient satisfaction, reducing space requirements, and reaping significant cost savings. |
